Therapy for Life Between Countries

Anxiety, overwhelm & identity — even when life looks good on paper

  • “Sophie supported me in such a warm and effective way. With the right tools, she helped me break through unhelpful thought patterns.”

    — Chrissie

  • “I have already had several sessions with Sophie and I can recommend her. My experience so far has been good and what I appreciate about her is, that she is very goal oriented, I had other people before and it felt like it is leading nowhere. Sophie likes to ask what is my intention and gives suggestions on how to get there in a practical manner. I really can recommend her.”

  • “I have been working with Sophie for some time and it’s been really helpful. I came in feeling stuck and putting a lot of pressure on myself to have everything together. When things got too much, I’d just shut down and not say much. She helped me see those patterns and actually do something about them. I’m communicating more now, and my relationships are a lot better because of it. She’s easy to talk to and very practical. Would definitely recommend.”

If this feels familiar

Going abroad can be exciting, but there is a side to it people don’t really say out loud. You meet people, make plans, and stay busy, yet still feel lonely. Not because you’re alone, but because those connections don’t feel that deep or steady yet. You enjoy the freedom, but the highs and lows feel more intense than you expected. You might notice yourself feeling more anxious, low, or overwhelmed than you did back home, while also feeling guilty toward people there for not being as present—and at the same time wondering why you’re not enjoying it more.

You catch yourself thinking, why is this so hard? Because moving countries doesn’t change what’s underneath. The overthinking, the pressure, and the relationship patterns you had back home don’t stay behind. They show up here too.

You’re building a life, but doing it largely on your own. And at some point, that starts to feel like a lot to carry.

If this feels familiar, you don’t have to figure it out alone.

Meet your therapist

I’m Sophie Bezemer, a Dutch-trained psychologist supporting people living between countries.

I grew up in the Netherlands, lived in Southeast Asia, and am now based in Mexico City. I’ve moved countries, solo traveled, and built a life from scratch more than once. I know how good it can look on the outside and how different it can feel on the inside.

Most people I work with have a life that looks good on paper— but feel anxious, overwhelmed, or stuck in familiar patterns. Perhaps you’ve been feeling more on edge than you used to, feeling lonely, overwhelmed, or you keep running into the same patterns in relationships. Or something just feels… off, even if you can’t fully explain it.

This is exactly the work we do.

My approach is calm, practical and depth-oriented. We don’t just talk about what’s going on, we look at why it is happening, so we can actually make lasting changes.

Just because you can do it alone doesn’t mean you have to.

From over-functioning to grounded in 4 weeks

You moved abroad for an adventure. You wanted to feel more alive and more free. But lately, it feels like life is just something you are... getting through.

This is a high-impact, 4-week program designed to help you stop over-functioning and start actually inhabiting your new life. We identify the baggage that crossed the border with you and build a nervous system that actually feels at home, wherever you are.

The reset includes:

  • Four weekly deep-dive sessions: consistent 50-minute 1:1 sessions to move you from "stuck" to "grounded" fast.

  • Priority booking: you get first choice of session times so you never have to wait weeks to talk.

  • Direct chat support: unlimited access to me via chat for those moments when the overthinking hits and you need an expert perspective in real time.

  • A practical roadmap: a blend of deep psychological insights and the actual tools you need to make changes tomorrow.

This is for the person who wants to stop "managing" their life abroad and start actually living it. I keep this intentionally small so there is real attention and support.
